The UK in particular is a major player in the digital IT market, with companies including Twitter, Google, Cisco, Intel and Facebook, all now have offices in London's TechCity.
So why the struggle for people to fill those positions? Britain's double-dip recession and the ever-present Eurozone crisis are major factors, of course. But the digital arm of the private sector has been largely impervious to some of the difficulties that other industries have routinely contended with over the past four or five years. Companies are investing in developing their technologies and are looking to hire a range of staff. So the recession isn't the problem - its the roles, or rather the supply of good candidates.
