Prime Minister David Cameron has attempted to further connect to the general public with a ground-breaking foray into social and professional networking.
Number 10 already has a popular account in @Number10gov which has over two million followers, but the official account @David_Cameron is currently just shy of 95,000.
The account, launched in tandem with the start of his party conference in Birmingham, has already gained much publicity.
According to the Daily Mail:
He initially followed just four other people: Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, London Mayor Boris Johnson, Foreign Secretary William Hague and the official Conservative party feed.
Today (7th Oct) he doubled the size of his inner circle, and followed Tory party chairman Grant Shapps, Communities Secretary Eric Pickles, Culture Secretary Maria Miller and Welsh Secretary David Jones. He later followed several dozen Tory MPs.
The Conservative leader has also joined LinkedIn as a "thought leader" which includes other prominent figureheads such as United States president Barack Obama and Virgin founder Richard Branson.
The PM is a fully paid-up member of LinkedIn and currently has 433 connections and 18,000 follower. You can follow him here.
Of course, Mr. Cameron's previous forays online have not always gone down too well - his election campaign was famously spoofed - something which the Tory leader will be hoping to avoid this time around.
