The end of January gets advertisers the world over jittery with the anticipation of America's famous Super Bowl TV adverts. The first major reveal of 2013 goes to German car manufacturer Volkswagen, whose "Get Happy" campaign cost a reported $8m.
In 2012 VW's 'Star Wars’ themed ads, released as a teaser before Super Bowl 46, achieved over 23 million views on YouTube in 24 hours.
Tim Mahoney, chief product and marketing officer at VW, said: "The Big Game presents an unparalleled creative opportunity to represent the Volkswagen brand. We’re excited to reveal this year’s campaign, which is designed to bring a jolt of happiness to viewers’ daily lives."
This 2013 effort has already come under fire from critics, accusing the segment of racial insensitivity. VW have already released a statement to counter the claims, which you can read here.
