Job board Reed has announced a month-on-month rise of 2.5% in job vacancies for the month of July, leading them to speculate that the UK economy at large is showing improvement across the board.
Reed.co.uk managing director Martin Warnes was cautiously optimistic over the findings.
“Our figures are based on real vacancies from employers across the UK and represent a true picture of what's happening in the job market right now; they also show that the economy may be in healthier position than other macroeconomic indicators, such as the recent GDP numbers, would suggest.”
He continued: “The recession has often accentuated disparities in
access to new employment around the regions, so it is encouraging that
job opportunities are now on the rise across the UK. This is
particularly the case within those regions that were hit hardest by the
recession such as the West Midlands and North-East.”
Chrysalis, who source technical IT professionals for specialist roles Manchester and London, can attest to this upturn in vacancies - with the company experiencing a 22% increase in vacant jobs that required recruitment in the month of July.
Senior Consultant Mohammed Atif said: "This jump in vacancies is a welcome surprise - and the Reed numbers highlight our industry reflecting the changing mood of the UK economy. It shows that companies and businesses in the private sector aren't all just 'weathering the storm' and are attacking the market with confident hiring strategies. Recruiters like ourselves are benefiting from this renewed confidence and are regularly placing people in new jobs."
