In a post on their official blog, Russian search engine Yandex have announced the arrival of "personalised" search results to their algorithm, delivering results and suggestions based on a user's specific behaviour.

Yandex's 93 million users will be subject to real-time analytics to determine their search trends and subsequently, produce more definitive, tailored results.

"With the new personalised search program, we can offer relevant results even to those web users who don’t have any search history on Yandex. To instantaneously react to changes in users’ search behaviour, we created a real-time data processing system, which processes more than 10 terabytes of data a day, continuously correcting its knowledge of users’ needs.
To make search results as personal as they can be, we first learnt to take into account users’ language preferences and permanent interests. Now, we have learnt how to tell current search intents of our users from their search footprint and give them what they are looking for.

The Russian site used a search on the upcoming U.S film "The Great Gatsby" as an example to illustrate their contemporary algorithm. The result of personalised search - improved user experience, more accurate results for the general user and valuable exchange of data. How long before Baidu and Google roll out their own technology to achieve similar results?
