Research from the Marketing Agencies Association suggests that pay across all digital agency roles has declined over the last year, according to a report in Campaign magazine.

The MAA has more than 80 members in the digital sector, but perhaps the more profitable opportunities currently lie client-side.

Here are the highlights from Campaign's article below:

  • Agency salaries dropped 1.8% to an average of £51,494 between March 2012 and March 2013

  • Digital art directors and copywriters' salaries declined by 20.8% to £38,000

  • Average wages in the digital sector declined by 3.9% to £52,479

  • Mid-level digital creatives earned a fifth less than they did last year

However, account managers and media planning/buying roles remain relatively unaffected, as do positions at board level. Interestingly...

  • A head of digital strategy’s salary was likely to have risen by 16.5% to £82,500, with junior digital strategists’ pay up 45.3% to £31,500.

So to summarise -  great news for digital strategists and account managers enjoy stability; but the majority of creatives have seen salaries cut.
