Online retailer eBay has reported that more than three million UK users logged on to the site on Sunday 2 December via mobile devices, doubling the number of mobile visitors on the same Sunday of 2011.
The site saw nine million unique visits from the UK that Sunday, up 18% versus the same day last year.
Approximately one-third of these visits were from mobile devices, an increase of
a huge 96% on last 2011.
Olivier Ropars, senior director of eBay's European Mobile Commerce, said: “The festive
is season is always a busy time of year so it’s no surprise to see
consumers taking advantage of their mobile and tablet devices to save
time and track down some great Christmas deals. eBay today is about
connecting buyers and sellers anytime, anywhere, to the things they need
and love.
“Mobile devices put a global store in the pockets of millions of
consumers around the world – and as our busiest Super Sunday to date has
proved, they also provide a huge opportunity for retailers who adopt
effective multichannel strategies, enabling them to reach the increasing
number of shoppers who turn to their mobile devices for their festive
shopping.”
